This Programme has been created to see that: · The Caregivers are aware of their and their child’s rights; · The Caregivers are fully aware of all the procedures, i.e: what will happen, the order it will happen in and when it will happen; · The Caregivers know how to recognize if things aren’t going as they should and know how they can help to get things back on track; · The Caregivers know how and who to go to for help if they feel that things are going wrong or that their concerns are not being attended to.
The procedures are to see that: · The Child is afforded the best care and protection; · The abuse of other children by the same offender is prevented; · The report of sexual abuse is expertly assessed; · If it is strongly indicated that abuse has taken place, the situation is dealt with in the best interests of the child; · If abuse is not indicated, but other behavioral problems are, the caregivers are referred on to appropriate help; · People are not wrongly accused of sexual abuse; · Abusers are apprehended and dealt with appropriately and that treatment is made available to them; · Appropriate counselling is available to the child, the caregivers, family and whanau; · The cycle of abuse is broken….
