We can’t presume to know what your particular circumstances are and we appreciate that if you haven’t yet disclosed your suspicions of sexual abuse then you may be facing one of the hardest decisions of your life.
We can only say that your child relies on your protection and support.
If you seriously suspect that your child has been or is being sexually abused, then you should seriously consider reporting this. Reporting your concerns will allow them to be professionally assessed.
If you are right in your suspicions your report. · will protect your child from further abuse · will allow your child to receive appropriate treatment and counselling, and · will assist in protecting other children too.
Sometimes behaviour in a child that may lead you to suspect abuse may be caused by other problems and not sexual abuse. The guidance you will get following your report will enable such other problems to be assessed and properly treated.
